A Vegas cab driver finds $300,000 in his back seat and returns to the rightful owner “I just wanted to do the right thing”.
Las Vegas cab driver Gerardo Gamboa finds a bag left in back seat and he thought that it was a chocolates. After checking the stockpile inside the bag, it’s $300,000 in cold cash, according to reports of several news sites on December 25, 2013.
Reports said, Gamboa found the bag after picking up his next passenger. The doorman transfer the bag from the back seat of the cab and put it on the front passenger seat and he thought it was chocolates left behind by previous passenger.
After taking a glimpse on the content of the bag, the Vegas cab driver discover pile of $100 bills in six $50,000 bundles. “Oh, my God! That’s a lot of money in here!” Gamboa said.
According to Gamboa, he picked up the previous passenger Monday morning at the Cosmopolitan casino and took him to Bellagio, where the passenger gave him a $5 tip.
So, right after the discovery, the Vegas cab driver put back the money, and he called dispatch right away.
Eventually, the $300,000 cash return gracefully to its rightful owner, an unidentified professional poker player, stopped by at taxi company office to claim his money.
The unnamed poker player ask to see Gamboa, shake his hand and told Gamboa he planned to reward him and got his contact information.
Gamboa, Vegas cab driver stated:
“I don’t care from $10 to higher. My dignity is not for sale, and that’s the way I am. That’s the way our parents taught us when I was a kid.”
“All I wanted to do was just call my dispatcher and return it, and this is the only chance I have to show cab drivers in Las Vegas are not bad people.”
Yellow Checker Star named Gerardo Gamboa its Driver of the Year, giving him $1,000 reward and a pricey dinner for two at an exclusive restaurant.
“I just wanted to do the right thing,” Vegas cab driver said, after doing the good deed.
